You will have one interview with the IND if you are registered in another European country

Last updated: 02/04/2025, 03:19

After your application in Ter Apel or at Schiphol, you will have one interview with the IND. This interview is about your previous asylum application in another European country.

The IND asks you questions about your asylum application elsewhere in Europe

The

Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND
) sees that you previously applied for asylum in another European country. They ask questions about this application. In this interview, you can tell them why the Netherlands should still process your asylum application. For example, because your family members already have a permit or application in the Netherlands.

The IND will ask about

  • Your name

  • Your date of birth

  • Your country of origin

  • Which family members are travelling with you

  • What language you speak

  • What you have experienced in the other European country that makes you want to apply for asylum in the Netherlands

An interpreter will be present at this interview and they will translate the IND employee's questions for you. The interpreter does not work for the IND and cannot help you with your asylum application. If you cannot understand the interpreter well, please say so at the beginning of the interview. It is important that you understand him or her well

If the Netherlands is the first European country where you apply for asylum, the IND will also investigate

If the Netherlands is the first country where you apply for asylum, the IND will also investigate whether another European country should process your asylum application. If so, the

Dublin procedure
also applies to you. For example, because:

  • You travelled to Europe illegally.

  • Your family members have applied for asylum in another European country.

  • Your family members have a residence permit in another European country.

  • You have an (expired) visa or residence permit for another European country, e.g. for study.

If the Netherlands is the first country where you apply for asylum and the information above does not apply to you, the Dublin procedure does not apply to you. Your asylum application will then continue to be processed in the general asylum procedure.
